About Five With Flores

Welcome to FiveWithFlores!

This is a blog I have been wanting to do for some time.

It’s mostly about Magic: The Gathering.

It’s somewhat about other stuff that is interesting, including my everyday life, a little marketing, a little comic books. Oh, and food.

For more information about this Magic blog, watch the video below.

VIDEO COMING SOON. (hopefully)

Great site. Thanks for continuing to provide great reviews and insights.

Quick question, your photo is a shot of Pittsburgh. Just wondering if that is a random chance or if you are in the steel city? If so I’d love to grab lunch or coffee sometime.

Hello Mr Flores, I love the site and all the videos you do. You help out the magic community alot. I wanted to ask if you could take a look at a deck list i have been working. After worlds i need suggestion on the board and maybe the main deck. As a fellow Filipino and former New Yorker the help would be much appreciated. I have an email or would u rather me post it up here if that would be easier for you. If you could do this that would be great thanks. Keep up the great work

Because I found no other way to contact you, I use this comment-form.

You should link up your cards/decklists!

You can either use a WP Plugin called MtG-Helper or I could send you a little code-snippet for the Quicktags used here in WordPress to add a card and a deck-button to the post-admin.

You could even monetize these links, by linking to TCGPlayer (they offer this around lately).

Just contact me by mail for more info, if interested.

I have missed your weeklies on SCG.com and am glad to see your blog. The Mothership articles are nice but I really enjoy your Theory pieces. I stumbled upon this blog looking for a Jund Ramp decklist.

Mike!

It’s great to finally get ahold of you! I can’t find any other way to, except through a mutual friend we share, but I’d rather do it on my own. I am actually winning at my local FNM, or was, with a reanimation build with mannequin and such…but people started playing faerie macabre, and I just don’t have an answer. I don’t have/can’t get pithing needles(too expensive) and I desperately need a solution! If you could email me, I’ll drop ya the decklist.

Thanks for your time!
Dan

hello there sir, i'm a filipino who heard about you

gabrielangelfire | February 27, 2010

hello there sir, i’m a filipino who heard about you from a friend and became interested in your blog. i was just wondering if you could give me tips on how to make archmage ascension a feasible card to run? i’m fascinated with this card simply because combined with quest for ancient secrets, time warp, and some twin casts, a person can probably get infinite turns, and i love those kinds of endless cycles, but the thing is the ascension is kind of hard maintenance and kind of hard to find a deck for, so what could you advise?

Hi Mike,

So I guess about a month ago on the mothership you where reviewing extended (prior to PTQ houston) and you made a brief “hey this is neat comment” about a rogue list out of Albuquerque. It was a revillark list using stoneforge mystic to pull up sword of the meek for thopter combo. Actually Walker Scroges, the guy who piloted it, and I designed that deck. Walker has been a big fan of yours for a while now and I’m sure it meant a lot to him that you noticed his deck. Without you that deck would have never existed. We actually started it from the U/W shell you proposed 3 months prior, we kinda jokingly said “man if Flores can put meddling mage in the main so can we”. At any rate I was just getting on here to share that and say thank you for all the work you do for the magic community.

Hi Mike, i am rookie on Magic, unnfortunetely i only discover this game a few months ago, and since i start playing i’ve been following your decks, and i played with your agro spread’em deck in my first PTQ two weeks ago.
I would love if you can advice me, how to sideboard with the deck, because that is my biggest problem, and if is any card i can change to face the current metagame. here is the deck:

2 Ajani Vengeant
4 Baneslayer Angel
4 Bloodbraid Elf
1 Elspeth, Knight-Errant
1 Gideon Jura
1 Jace Beleren
3 Jace, the Mind Sculptor
3 Rhox War Monk
4 Wall of Omens

4 Ardent Plea
2 Day of Judgment
4 Spreading Seas

3 Arid Mesa
3 Celestial Colonnade
1 Forest
1 Glacial Fortress
3 Island
4 Jungle Shrine
4 Misty Rainforest
1 Mountain
3 Plains
1 Rootbound Crag
2 Scalding Tarn
1 Seaside Citadel

Sideboard:
3 Bant Charm
1 Day of Judgment
1 Gideon Jura
1 Jace Beleren
1 Jace, the Mind Sculptor
4 Kor Firewalker
1 Recurring Insight
1 Rhox War Monk
2 Sphinx of Jwar Isle

I put 2x trace of abundance instead 1x gideon and 1x jace.

Hope you can help me, thank you very much.

Manel, Portugal.
