You know what might almost be good?
Bant control with this dude, scute mob, noble heirarch, rhox war monk, the new wrath, baneslayer, jenara (the angel from alara reborn), path to exile, permission (if anything's actually playable), the enchantment that makes angels (sideboarded). that's some pretty crazy card quality.

Wizards loves 1G.
"See, giving this preview to Flores was like giving crack to an addict", cracked me up. Kudos, kryogen76.
It's like wild mongrel on steroids, and that's really not a card that needs steroids. I'm sure there's a combo deck that wants this; either as a centrepeice, or as a sideboard option like confidant out of vintage TPS decks to give it crazy gas when being attacked by hosers.
Kinda like a lotus bloom with one less suspend counter and the ability to beat face.

A friend of mine and I tested decks, all but one of them had Cobra in it. All the decks WITH cobra in it won games. This thing is absolutely retarded. One of the best applications of it that I found is that it let me play my CIPT lands in unusual situations, because with the Cobra they effectively don't CIPT (ETBT).

This card is just bonkers. Long live Sparkmage Apprentice? :D

I think the thing to remember is just what Mike said: it's not that producing an extra mana is so great, it's that you get to do it FOR FREE.
There's no drawback to Lotus Cobra. It's just icing on your lands.

See, giving this preview to Flores was like giving crack to an addict. Flores loves Mana Ramp decks, that power out fat, powerful creatures. This is the enabler, the gateway drug. Much more powerful than Rampant Growth, or dare I say, Borderland Ranger/Civic Wayfinder/Sakura Tribe Elder! *GASP* It obviously is his favorite card of all time. That said, a double Cobra draw can power out EXTREMELY degenerate drops on turns 3 or 4 (such as Progenitus). I am going to try to ramp with him too if I can get ahold of him.

Maybe I'm just jaded, but I really don't see Lotus Cobra as being the "best 2-drop of all time," but maybe I'm just being short-sighted. Certainly it's very powerful, and doubly so with fetches and cards like Harrow and Khalni Heart Expedition in the format, and it's certainly well above the power curve, but outside of potential explosiveness, it's basically a 2-mana accelerator that can attack. Now, that's no small asset, but I don't really think it puts it above Tarmogoyf and (as much as you hate him) Dark Confidant. Look at Bloom Tender, for example. If you play it on turn 2, then follow up with, say Trace of Abundance on turn 3, you can produce 5 mana, with 7 mana looming the next turn. And yet, Bloom Tender was Marginal at best.

Maybe I'm overlooking some facet of the Cobra's potential, or perhaps the potential power of holding back fetches, but it seems like it's "just" a very good card. Shame it'll cost $50,000,000 for a playset, though. Nice job, Wizards, so much for putting less powerful, grander spells in the mythic slot.

A better 2-drop than Tarmogoyf? Will it be $50 like Tarmogoyf? Can't believe it's Mythic. Boo to that - this goes into every green deck ever, and I could imagine some decks dipping into green just to play it. Just like Tarmogoyf.
